Composting Materials Needed!

The Community Gardens are in need of healthy material waste for composting.

In an effort to add important organic nutrients to the garden plants and help retain moisture, the gardens are looking for composting materials that contains a mixture of brown and green yard waste and food scraps - (NO MEAT, BONES OR OILS), egg shells, coffee grounds, tea bags (no staples), grass clippings, dry leaves, non-diseased small plant waste (not aggressive weeds), shredded white or brown paper/cardboard, etc.

See www.epa.gov/recycle/composting for more information on good and bad composting materials.

The Community Gardens have partnered with the Daughter of the Stars Farmers Market to provide collection sites for composting materials. Composting materials can be delivered to the Farmers Market (designated containers). Farmers Market is open at 736 4th Street in Shenandoah on the first Saturday of the month and the Visitor Center in Luray, 18 Campbell St, every third Saturday of the month.
